ABOUT ME
HEATHER LOMAS
Heather Lomas
I have been working in the heritage and cultural sector for nearly 30 years. I started at a small, independent museum, before working for local authority museum services and universities. I have run my own consultancy since 1995.
I work with clients across the UK. They range from national organisations, such as Arts Council England and National Lottery Heritage Fund, to councils and regional museum services and from large museums, such as the V&A and Historic Royal Palaces, to the smallest independent museums.
I am a founding partner of Collections Management Network, which specialises in providing collections management consultancy; Collections Management Network is now integrated into Heather Lomas Consulting.
I am a consultant to the National lottery Heritage Fund providing support, mentoring and monitoring for a range of projects.
I have been an Accreditation mentor for the Museums Accreditation Scheme since 1990 and currently I support Beccles Museum in Suffolk.
I am an Associate of the Museums Association and a member of the Association of Independent Museums and the Ancient Monuments Society.

Working with Heather is a great pleasure, and she is also incredibly efficient and effective. She made a huge difference to our project - her professional approach drove our agenda forward and she handled complex logistics with ease, which allowed us to focus on the academic issues and outcomes. Heather saved us a lot of time (and stress) which directly translates into financial gain.

Jane Owen
Heritage Project Manager
Hull Minster
Heather guided us expertly through the Heritage Lottery Fund's processes, providing guidance and encouragement along with a firm steer on how to manage the project. She was a critical friend, helping us manage tender processes, contractors, change, and evaluation. Above all, she has given us the confidence to take on new and bigger projects which will help us fulfil our heritage vision.

Another marvellous session facilitated by Heather. Practical exercises very good, slides and handouts useful.
Today’s session was very comprehensive, very wide ranging. So much information and advice. Lots of things to do ‘back at the base’. Many thanks.
Claire Browne
Regional Museum Development Manager
Museum Development East Midlands
Heather has been engaged by Museum Development East Midlands (MDEM) to deliver programmes, projects, advice and information on a contract basis. Heather is hugely reliable and highly professional in her manner and delivery. She is highly regarded by museums she has supported for her friendly and approachable personality, empathy and understanding. Heather really cares about museums and encourages people to get the most out of opportunities.
Her leadership of the MDEM Volunteer Development programme led to a remarkable increase in new volunteers in the region's museums and raised standards as well as leaving a legacy of a useful toolkit.
Heather is flexible and adaptable which really makes a difference when planning and delivering programmes of support that need to respond to need and change to meet demand.
MDEM receives regular positive feedback from museums about the support they have received from Heather and she is a pleasure to work with.
